Second ranked Prattville (13-0) turned a 10-7 halftime lead into a 38-7 blowout over the McGill-Toolen Yellow Jackets Friday night at Ladd Peebles Stadium. The Prattville players, coaches and the fans were full of emotion after losing defensive back coach Lorenzo Pickett to an apparent heart-attack Thursday morning.

During pre-game warm-ups the players chanted “Lo” in reference to their fallen coach. The two teams met up at the center of the field before the game to have a moment of silence for coach Pickett.

Prattville's defense fed off the emotions early and held McGill-Toolen to a three-and-out in the game's opening possession. Prattville took over at their own 33-yard line. After two plays in a row for a loss, the Lion’s were faced with a third-and-17. Quarterback Larry Smith hit running back Justin Albert for a big pass play to the 50-yard line and the first down. On the very next play, Smith a Vanderbilt verbal, scrambled for 30 yards down to the Yellow Jacket 20. From there the drive stalled and the Lions had to settle for a 33-yard field goal from Brian Egan to take 3-0 lead with 5:23 to go in the first.

Again the Yellow Jacket offense couldn’t get the job done and had to punt back to Prattville.

Larry Smith made some big plays with his arm and his legs before Justin Albert finished the drive off with a five-yard touchdown run to give the Lions a 10-0 lead. Justin Albert finished the night with 202 yards rushing on 24 carries and three touchdowns. In a game loaded with top prospects, Albert really stood out as one of the best.

McGill-Toolen managed to pick up a couple of first downs on the ensuing possession before Nick Gentry (Alabama verbal) sacked quarterback Cullen Wacker for the third time in the game for a big loss forcing a punt.

Prattville drove the ball down to the four-yard line before stalling. Larry Smith’s fourth down attempt was batted down in the end zone, and McGill-Toolen regained possession and dodged a huge bullet.

McGill-Toolen picked up a huge play as Torrian Russell sprinted 25 yards to get the ball out to the 50 with fewer than 50 seconds to go in the half. After a pass interference call on the Prattville defense, Scout.com four-star senior Phelon Jones made an incredible catch and run for a 40-yard touchdown for the first score for the Jackets. The Lions led 10-7 at the half.

That was all the scoring the Jackets could muster the entire game. Prattville came out on fire in the second half and rallied off 28 unanswered points. After another Justin Albert touchdown to make the score 17-7, McGill-Toolen had a chance to cut back into the lead.

Phelon Jones (Miami verbal ) returned the kick-off out to the 46-yard line, and Wacker picked up a 15 yards on first down. Unfortunately, the drive stalled by Prattville's stingy defense. The Yellow Jackets' punter did get a very nice punt downed inside the five-yard line, but Justin Albert struck again. The junior standout carried the ball two times on the drive for 95 yards and touchdown including a 77-yard run to start the drive to put the game out of reach.

Larry Smith added a 19-yard touchdown run, and Lewis Haley capped the scoring with a touchdown with just 2:25 to go in the game.

The Lions ripped the Yellow Jacket defense for 527 yards including 356 on the ground.

McGill-Toolen’s Phelon Jones and Sidell Corley joined ScoutSouth.com for a post-game interview. “We started out real good, making plays and came back with a late drive going into half-time. After halftime they just made the adjustments to come out and do what they had to do," Jones said.

"We had a pretty good season," Corley said. "We broke three records for the school. The better football team won. You can tell by the scoreboard. We have a young team, and those guys will be great next year.”

Prattville's Nick Gentry, Larry Smith, Justin Albert and Trey Clarke also talked to ScoutSouth.com about the game.

“The game went real well," Gentry said. "We had to execute on defense and on offense, both sides of the ball. They (McGill-Toolen) claim to have the best defensive line in the state, but our offensive line is just as good or if not better. Probably the best offensive line I have ever seen, as far as going against them in practice.”

"We played great man, the whole team. It was a team effort," Larry Smith said. "We had a good game plan, and we executed really well. My hats off to the offensive line for blocking, and Justin Albert had a great game running the ball."

“My offensive line opened great holes," Justin Albert said of his 202 performance. "They have been working hard all week. They had some big d-linemen, but our offensive line worked real hard to open holes so I could run through there.”

Senior center Trey Clarke is the anchor of the line, and he is holding scholarship offers from West Alabama, Alabama State and Huntington.

“It was a wonderful team effort," Clark told ScoutSouth.com. "The offense is just clicking at the right time. We do everything we have to do to win. We have to continue to work hard every week. Stay focused and have the same dedication and pride every single day to get better.”
