Clark to lead all-star game

It didn't take the Alabama High School Athletic Association long to find another challenge for Prattville High football coach Bill Clark.

Shortly after the Lions had taken the state championship trophy with a convincing 35-21 spanking of the Hoover Buccaneers, Clark was offered a opportunity to coach the Alabama All-Stars in the annual Alabama-Mississippi All-Star game.

"I have been an assistant coach in two of the games, never the head coach," Clark said. "I slept on the offer and decided that it would be a challenge to be the head coach. It is an opportunity to coach with some outstanding Alabama coaches and against the Mississippi coaches, who are excellent high school coaches as well.

"Hopefully, I'll be able to have several of my players to coach one more time before they go off to college."

Clark has been at Prattville for seven seasons and has a 91-11 record. During the last four seasons, Prattville has lost only three games -- all of those in the playoffs, once in the finals to Hoover, 22-7, and twice in the quarterfinals -- once to Vigor, 19-0, and last year to Opelika, 17-15.

Alabama leads in the series 13-7. The players and assistant coaches will be named at a later date. The game will be played June 2 at Mobile's Ladd-Peeples Stadium.
