Support sent Lions to state championship
A testament to the support of any high school athletic program, team or group can be displayed by its fanbase.
From the first round of the playoffs to the Fourth, the Prattville football faithful have been there to support the Lions all season.
Now, understand that winning is contagious and will cause people to come out to watch a game who under many circumstances would be sitting at home, but the support the Lions had over the past two weeks was unbelievable.
Prattville's fans sold out the bleachers at Bulldog Stadium in Opelika and made their side of the field standing room only.
The student body at Prattville High nearly blew the roof off of the gym with Friday's pep rally and then what looked like the entire community of Prattville traveled to Birmingham en mass to cheer on their hometown team.
Between the crowds from Prattville and Hoover, a Super Six attendance record was set at more than 30,000 in paid attendance.
But what is even more impressive than those that made the trip, are those that turned out downtown Saturday night to party with the champs.
By the time all three charter buses had arrived and been emptied, downtown was awash with toilet paper and humanity.
That's how you welcome a championship team back to their hometown.
Kudos to the citizens of Prattville for showing that it doesn't take a television audience to make a community.
It takes heart, pride and spirit.
All three are possessed by the folks in Prattville.
Congratulations Lions on finishing the job and bringing home the 2006 state championship trophy, and congratulations Prattville community for showing what community spirit and support is all about.
