Prattville's Clark gets All-Star call
By Wesley Lyle Montgomery Advertiser
It didn't take Prattville football coach Bill Clark long to find another challenge.
Shortly after guiding the Lions to the 6A state title and the first 15-0 season in school history last Saturday, Clark was given a new task. In June, Clark will head the Alabama squad in the 2007 Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Football Classic.
"They asked me to do it Saturday night," Clark said. "Sunday morning, I woke up thinking about the new challenge. I've never been the head coach in this game."
The game will be played on June 2 in Mobile. Clark has previously coached in the game as the defensive coordinator in 2003 and 2005. The rest of the Alabama staff will be selected at a later date.
"This is a very competitive All-Star game that is important to both sides," Clark said. "It always features the best players in the state. You look forward to working with those players and with the coaches. I hope it will be an opportunity to coach a couple of my guys again."
Clark is 91-11 at Prattville and his teams have lost just three games since the start of the 2003 season. The 2003 team lost to Vigor in the quarterfinals, the 2004 team lost to Hoover in the finals and the 2005 team lost to Opelika in the quarters.
With Saturday's 35-21 win over Hoover, Clark said the Lions ended the season without any "buts" or "what ifs."
"It's been great," Clark said. "When you finish the year like this, you don't sit and wonder 'what if this had happened?' or 'we should have won but.' Winning leaves you with a great feeling."
Not surprisingly, Clark and the Lions have had little time to themselves since Saturday. But that's a good thing.
"The support from the community and our fans has been great," Clark said. "You can't go anywhere without people stopping you. I think they're as excited as we are, and that's what we want."
An exact date had not been set as of Monday evening, but Clark said a parade and trophy presentation will take place sometime in early January.
