Prattville to celebrate victory in January

The official celebration of the Prattville High School football team’s winning of the Class 6A state championship is planned for early January.

The Lions defeated Hoover High School Saturday at Legion Field in Birmingham. This is exam week at Prattville High, and the Christmas break starts Friday.

“I spoke with Coach (Bill) Clark early Monday morning and he told me of the school officials’ concerns,” said Mayor Jim Byard. “With testing going on this week and then the holiday rush, we just decided it was best to wait.”

The celebration will be set for early January 2007, when school is back in session. The event will likely include a parade and festivities at Stanley-Jensen Stadium, home turf of the Lions.

The town did have an unofficial party Saturday night when more than 3,000 people welcomed the team home. The downtown area was covered with hundreds of rolls of toilet paper.
